Does yay retro! sell any brand new products?

No - I am passionate about vintage homeware, so all yay retro! items are from the 1940's, 50's, 60's and 70's (there might be some more recent things but definitely nothing new). Many of the older designs are so good that they look contemporary now even though they might be 50 years old - an indication of fantastic design! 

What about packaging & postage?

After cleaning and photography, I package each item with great care. I use new good quality brand new boxes whenever possible, tissue paper, newspaper & bubble wrap. I absorb almost all of the internal packaging costs, and use recycled packaging materials whenever I can to do my bit for the planet. I use a reliable courier and the Royal Mail. My prices with P&P are for UK delivery, unfortunately I no longer ship overseas.

Can I have Combined Postage?

Most people are looking to buy several small items at the same time, I am happy to combine them into one box if I can do so safely, you can either place the order and I will refund the postage not required at the packing stage (once the parcel is weighed), or email me before placing your order and I will recalculate your postage. 

If buying a mosaic artwork by Fiona Gurney with a yay retro! kitchen or tableware item, postage cannot be combined as the mosaics are shipped directly from the artist/maker, however when buying two or more mosaics you will receive a refund for any postage not required via a cheque in your parcel.

When will you despatch my items?

I will acknowledge your order personally by email, and let you know the date of despatch.  Delivery normally takes 3-5 working days after this. Do note that there is only 'little old me' running yay retro!, and I live quite a way from the courier despatch point. Therefore despatch only takes place twice a week. How can I tell if the item is genuinely vintage?

Many of the items have marks on the base to indicate where they were made and who by - in the product description I show a photo of these markings if at all possible. I also research items to do my best to identify when they were designed and made. Do bear in mind that here at yay retro! I am not an antiques expert, just an enthusiastic seller of vintage wares.

Do any of yay retro products have any damage?

I am very careful about only offering the best examples of vintage and retro products and aim to sell only the best. Of course when dealing with such old products there is often wear and tear and cosmetic marks. If the damage is very noticeable I will include a photograph. Additionally, in the product descriptions, I do my absolute best to describe any such minor defects (for example crazing of the glaze or minor imperfections). Then you will not get any surprises when you receive your items.

Why do the items look so good in the photos?

People have asked why everything yay retro! sells looks so good, and have even asked if I have photo-shopped the pictures! The answer is that I never photoshop items. The reason the images are so clear, crisp and colourful is that I trained as a fine artist and I was also a professional photographer for many years. The other reason is of course, that I am selective about what yay retro! sells, if there are areas of noticeable imperfection I will often photograph it, and always describe it. 

Do you clean the items before selling them?

Yes I do! I hand clean every item before making it available for sale. This is also a good way for me to find any imperfections.

Why is everything I can see sold?

Don't worry, yay retro! generally has over 500 vintage items for sale at any one time in the online vintage shop. If everything you can see is sold, it may be that you have entered the yay retro! shop via a web or image search that is looking at a specific 'term' on the website. For instance a brand or type of item which has currently sold out. The nature of the vintage items I sell means they cannot easily be bought on demand all of the time as they are from the 1940s to 70s, and can only be sourced and put up for sale as and when I find them. To see everything yay retro! has for sale, simply click 'yay retro!' at the top of the website, or here.

Note, I do not remove sold items from the website as many people like to visit yay retro! for reference,  research and browsing the kinds of items different brands and mid century designers created. 

Can I put vintage and retro china in a dishwasher or microwave?

I would never recommend dishwashing vintage china and glassware. These items were not manufactured to withstand high temperatures and modern dishwashing techniques. Always wash and dry by hand, it really is another part of the enjoyable vintage experience.

Again, I would not recommend that vintage items (other than Pyrex) are put into a microwave, they were not designed to withstand this environment.

Can I buy a set?

Most of yay retro!'s matching products are sold as sets or pairs. If this is the case I make it obvious in the description and photos. I sell sets of items which can safely be packed together, and which are not too heavy so that we can keep postage costs down. This is why you will sometimes see dishes sold separately to the matching cups and saucers.

Why can't I see the Checkout Basket?

How do yay retro! Gift Vouchers work?

Gift Vouchers are sent by 'signed for' Royal Mail to ensure they are received safely. They are redeemable for merchandise online at www.yayretro.co.uk. When redeeming, please ensure your order is equal to, or more than your gift voucher, as they can be used for just one transaction, and no change will be given on gift voucher purchases. You and your recipient are sent details on how to redeem the vouchers on purchase :O)

Does yay retro! ship overseas?

Unfortunately due to the excessive time and cost implications, I no longer ship overseas. Sorry for the inconvenience. I can ship to friends and family in the UK or to a specialist Forwarding Company with a UK address (at your risk).

Does yay retro! buy from the General Public?

Sorry no I generally don't buy direct. I get hundreds of emails & calls each year asking me to buy, 99% sadly relate to items I do not buy in, or are not of a high enough quality.
