yay retro! sell vintage Marks and Spencers wares predominantly from the 1960s and 70s, when the brand label they sold homewares under was 'St Michael'. Over the years we have had some super designs in our vintage shop and I thought you may be interested to see just what is available by popping them on this vintage brands page.

One of our favourite patterns ever is found on St Michael brand melamine tablewares such as the cork backed table mats above. We actually use this design in our own home, and it is possible to get chopping boards and trays in the same design.

This comes in yellow, purple and orange versions too. If you are very lucky you may even find a huge work top saver like the one at the bottom left of the photo above! This fantastic design was also produced on tea towels as shown on the left below. You can find this tea towel in blue and purple too.

Many people use vintage M&S fabric homewares to make into items such as cushions. This is how the cushion below was created.

Bedding from 1960/70s Marks & Spencers is very popular with people looking to use it on their double and single beds today. M&S created sheets, pillowcases and later duvet covers in this popular flower power pattern. Many people have written to yay retro! to say they had this on their beds and even had matching wall paper and curtains!

The bedding came in bright yellow, pink, green and purple. Perhaps there is another colour it came in that I haven't mentioned? If so do drop me a line! You can see in the photo below left that linen table mats were also made from this fabric.

Beautiful fringed bedcovers or what we now think of as throws were also produced, these are fantastic to use now on your bed, to cover a sofa or as a picnic blanket.

One of the most exciting finds for us is when we track down a St Michael apron or pinny. The designs are simply superb, bright and cheery! Coming up are the ones we have found so far, these would be fab to wear over a skirt -even to go out and about! Or how about framing them as they are so ultra special?

This black and white gingham check apron from Marks and Spencers has sausage dogs strolling across the bright orange pockets!

This delightful bright yellow apron has a florist shop full of fab flowers on the pockets!!

The vintage M&S pinny below has Scandi styled flower patterns and is bright orange and yellow - adorable!!

As any discerning vintage collector knows the Scandinavian style was extremely influential in the 60s and 70s, just as it is again now today. The lovely lemon yellow apron below has Scandi kitchenware on the pockets. Simply fabulous.

This jolly St Michael apron has zodiac signs across the front, this was produced when Linda Goodman's 'Sun Signs' book came out, a book which got everyone buzzing about the month in which they were born and personality traits!

Other recent additions to the yay retro! website include these marvellous apron or pinny designs which feature sewing paraphernalia such as needle, thread, buttons, safety pins, pin cushions, tape measures, scissors and thimbles. Ideal for any sewing enthusiast we have them in red or blue.

Another incredible M&S apron design is this hot pink number with a High Street of shops on the pockets. These aprons are often snapped up by collectors of St Michael wares as they are utterly adorable!

Later the poppy patterns came along as seen below on a tea towel and work top saver. Have to say this is not my favourite pattern, but am including it here to cover all bases.

The same can be said for these later designs from M&S. Probably from the 80s.
