Ultra Rare J&G Meakin Garden Party For Sale at yay retro!

yay retro! are delighted to have two pieces of the ultra collectable J&G Meakin Garden Party design for sale in our online vintage shop. Designed by Jessie Tait in the 1960s this is one of the most sought after patterns in the Studio range.

I have the coffee pot and the tall jug available, both are in near unused condition with no damage. A must have for any serious collector!

Both would be superb in every day use, or in display in any room of your home. i must admit these are hard to let go, I think they would be the perfect gift and would look stunning with flower in them or just sitting proudly on a shelf, sideboard or mantelpiece.

Extraordinary J&G Meakin Coffee Pot Collection!

Yesterday I got a wonderful email from Donna, a yay retro! customer...Back in 2012, she had bought some J&G Meakin Studio ware from me, little did I know that her purchase sparked the most wonderful collection of J&G Meakin Studio Coffee Pots!  Donna kindly sent me photos of her fantastic collection which amounts to 65 coffee pots and counting...

In 1968, J&G Meakin took over Midwinter, whose 'Fine' shaped coffee pots had influenced their Studio Shape designs. The Studio Shape coffee pot has a very tall, sleek, ornamental shape with a long spout, which is very recognisable and ideal for display. The company had a huge variety of designs from classic 50s style roses, to 60s flower power patterns and 70s abstract mosaic style imagery, even plain coffee pots were created in the Studio shape. Donna's collection continues to grow and we just love her specially made shelving to house her display!

If you would like to find out more about J&G Meakin and the patterns they created, check out the yay retro! Retropedia page about J&G Meakin here.

Please note we are not looking to purchase J&G Meakin for the yay retro! shop at the moment, thanks.

J&G Meakin Coffee Pots for collectors everywhere

Back in the late 60s and early 70s J&G Meakin  Studio Pottery were very busy designing many 100s of up-to-the-minute patterns to put on their newly created sleek, tall coffee pots, teapots and matching cup sets. With so many designs to choose from these pots became a real hit, and collectors today are keen to try to find them all.

Brilliant as display pieces, these mid century coffee pots double up as superb ornaments. At the moment yay retro! have a J&G Meakin Topic Coffee pot in stock - this pattern features a mass of seemingly hand drawn blue flowers and green leaves.  We also have a Tuscany coffee pot with a floral mosaic design. Rather more conservative that the Topic pattern, Tuscany includes rich blues and yellows with a sprinkling of chocolate, and is one of the rarer patterns.

J&G Meakin Studio Shape Jug Collection

Now I am definitely one to say you can never have enough china jugs...in fact I recently wrote a blog about the common condition amongst vintage devotees 'jugaholism'! So it was lovely yesterday to chat to Sue H via the yay retro! Facebook page about her massive collection of J&G Meakin milk and cream jugs.

Sue is aiming to get a jug for each of the designs J&G Meakin produced in the 1960s/70s Studio Shape range. With over 100 patterns, we hope she doesn't run out of wall space for her very impressive collection. Below are two snaps popped together to show how many she has, right now it covers one wall of her kitchen, and then goes around  two corners to continue!

yay retro! have some J&G Meakin jugs in stock, these are some of the more regularly seen patterns such as Capri, Eden and Allegro, and so we can't help Sue complete her collection right now...though who knows what we may find next week? It's always worth keeping a regular eye on what's for sale in our online vintage shop.

If you want to look at the J&G Meakin we have for sale at the moment, click any of the photos - you might like to start your collection today?!  If so we can combine postage, (and you can buy the jugs without the fabric flowers if you email hello@yayretro.co.uk before placing your order).

If you would like to read about J&G Meakin in the yay retro! Retropedia click here, this includes a potted history of the company, lots of photos, our current stock levels, and a handy guide to all of the Studio shape patterns they produced.

Fab Collection of J&G Meakin Studio Coffee Pots

Many people love to collect J&G Meakin 1960/70s Studioware, particularly the coffee pots and jugs. One such person is designer Kate from www.emilypickle.com, and she has kindly sent us a photo of her lovely collection.

From left to right the pot designs are Aztec, Filigree,  Bianca, Amulet, unknown , Topic, Allegro and Palma.  We like the way they have been used to display a bouquet of flowers, with the lids neatly popped to the sides, they look really great on a window sill like this.  If your home is not large enough to accomodate a collection of coffee pots then jugs might be a better option?

Why not go shopping for J&G Meakin at yay retro! now? Currently we have this stunning and rarely found Dahlia coffee pot in stock, a must-have centrepiece for any collection :O)
