Ways with Vintage & Cheese

Here at yay retro! we find that vintage cheese dishes are a very popular buy. One of the essential items in any kitchen, cheese really does last longer in a proper china, ceramic or pottery cheese dish. We just love finding Poole Pottery dishes (like the one above), as they are so stylish. Designed in the 1930s, these dishes have a contemporary look, and being minimal match pretty much any style of kitchen decor from flouncy flowers to bold 50s abstracts.

In the current yay retro! vintage stocks we also have a rather nifty sage green Beswick cheese dish, which has been designed in the style of Portmeirion's Totem pattern. If you are looking for an understated country kitchen or utility ware look our off white £5.00 dish will suit you down to the ground!  Of course, any of our cheese dishes can be used to store butter as well.

When it comes to serving cheese after dinner, or for a late night snack vintage cheese boards are always sought after. We find many people buy them as gifts, and we are always on the look out for extra special ones. Particularly those that can be used to decorate the room too.  This Scandinavian style board is decorated with a bird and fish in the style of Picasso.  It has a leather strap to hang it on the wall, and even the knife is a work of art with it's heart shaped cut out!

Don't feel you have to just serve cheese on your board about serving sushi, pate or a selection of tapas? This stunning ARABIA Finland ceramic glazed serving platter in the shape of a fish, could be used to serve a whole host of nibbles, as well as serve as a chopping board or wall plaque. This was designed by Kaarina Aho in the 1950/60s, and is the perfect gift idea for a collector of mid century Scandinavian homeware.
