yay retro! is always on the look out for interesting and talented people who make fab homewares to feature on our blog. Lyn Barrington from 'Made by Me', knits simply brilliant cat and owl tea cosies which we absolutely had to feature!
Lyn is from Stafford in the Midlands, and has been knitting since she was 4 years old (learning to crochet at 6!) Amazingly Lyn can knit 3 tea cosy’s in a day at a push, taking another day to add the faces and sew them together. Lyn made up the pattern for her Owl tea cosy, and although it did take several attempts to get the size right and work out how to do the tummy, eventually her unique cosies were born! It wasn't long before Lyn came up with her 'Cheeky Cat' designs too!
Until March 2011 was a theatre nurse working in hospitals. However, at the end of that month she was diagnosed with lung cancer. This was a huge shock as Lyn had never smoked. After undergoing major surgery Lyn was given 6-12 months to live, to date with a new targeted chemo tablet she has survived 22 months and has been able to live a relatively 'normal life'.
It was because of this huge life changing situation that 'Made by Me' came about. It took 4 months to get over the surgery and after 3 weeks she had started chemo. Lyn began knitting & crocheting during her recuperation, and says that all her friends & family got hand knitted hat’s scarves and cushions for Christmas that year!
You can buy these lovely tea cosys along with other handmade items on her facebook ‘Made by Me’ page. Lyn tells us that she loves the Sunshine and Seagull Poole Pottery coffee pot on the yay retro! site, and that believe it or not, she doesn't drink tea ;o) !!blog comments powered by Disqus
