Whilst we were surfing about online recently we came across the Summer Lovin VW Camper Hire company run by Marc and Caroline Easton in Sussex (just outside Brighton). Their VW T2 vans Percy and Lola (featured here) are from the 1970s and are just the thing for seeing the South Downs and beyond!
Marc previously lived for 4 years in a 1959 VW Splitscreen in New Zealand, that he’d bought and restored over there and so was already a VW and an outdoor enthusiast! Once back in the UK the couple decided to set up the Summer Lovin VW camperhire company so that others could get the same kind of experience.
One of the special things about their vans is that wherever possible they have tried to use retro and vintage items, giving their customers a proper trip down memory lane.
Marc and Caroline try to get away in the vans themselves from time to time and their favourite place is The New Forest (by coincidence this is where yay retro! is based). Locally they have campsites where you can have a campfire, so ideal for heading out on a Friday evening.
The couple also live the vintage lifestyle at home, Caroline swears by her orange wooden handled metal 1970’s potato masher (so much better than today’s plastic efforts) and is a sucker for vintage flannelette sheets and pillowcases, perfect for chilly nights! They have an original 70’s fondue set that they take camping, and their son has a 1950’s Dennis the Menace mirror in his bedroom. They also use 1950/60’s glasses with a Caribbean style prints on them :O)
Summer Lovin tell us that they love the Pyrex casserole dishes with the vegetables on in the yay retro! shop, along with the Elizabethan Chelsea tea set, as Caroline's Nan had a set of these, bringing back great memories for her. We've popped this teaset alongside the lovely Lola below -
