Recently yay retro! fell in love with the paintings and artwork of Louise Rawlings. Louise is based in the West Midlands, and creates stunningly pretty and very detailed paintings of homes and gardens, complete with birds, people and animals. Also in her portfolio, are many paintings of vintage china and tableware which of course drew our attention!
Louise says she finds inspiration for her ceramics pictures from various sources. She regularly takes shapes and patterns from magazines such as Country Living, and she loves looking through all the ceramics for sale on sites such as yay retro! Louise tells us she loves the tall coffee pots by J&G Meakin...and that this shape regularly appears in her paintings.
Louise studied Surface Decoration at DeMontfort University in the early 90's, gaining a First Class Hons Degree. Her work can be seen at The Acorn Gallery, Pocklington, Lion Gallery, Leominster, Cambridge Contemporary Art, and she will soon be showing in the Artifex Gallery, Sutton Coldfield.
As well as selling her work privately, she is a published artist. Her work has featured on mugs, calenders, children's books and she regularly licenses to greetings card companies such as Woodmansterne, Calypso and Phoenix Trading. So perhaps you may recognise her stunning work?
Louise says, "My favourite piece on in the yay retro! shop is the Turi Design Daisy Dish...absolutely love the daisy motif!"
We have put a montage of some our favourite pieces of Louise's work together with a little of our vintage china which has the same colour tones and shapes as those found in these paintings...what do you think?
