December 17 Degustabox Reviews by yay retro!

Last month's Degustabox arrived just before Christmas, and I found the contents really interesting. We've just finished taste testing everything, just in time for today's next exciting Degustabox delivery!!

In case you don't know, I'm Sue and I run the yay retro! online vintage shop, which sells vintage home and cookwares from the 1940s, 50s, 60s & 70s. I'm into cooking and eating, fun and surprises! So the Degustabox monthly food subscription is the perfect monthly treat!  We get 10 to 15 surprise products delivered directly our home each month to try, and they come wrapped in a lovely box for much less than you'd pay in the shops! See below for a Degustabox voucher code to join in the fun and surprises get money off your first box.

San Miguel 0,0 Alcohol Free Beer

I love drinking craft beer, and so I approached this with trepidation, however I found it to be completely fresh and yummy with a good depth to the flavour. I would definitely want to drink this again when I am cutting down on the booze or am the designated driver. A future buy for sure.

Willie's Cacao Black Pearls Sea Salt Caramel

Made in a small factory in Cullompton, Devon these beautifully rich chocolates come in swish packaging and are gold foil wrapped. These little dark chocolate balls have a rich, zingy flavour to the outside and a lush melting caramel inside. I kept them in the fridge and so they had a nice crunch to them as you bit into them. Nice and rich, so you only eat a few at a time. Apparently Willie's Cacao only uses single estate cacaos which have their own individual flavour (think wine vineyards, but cacoa!). The chocolate is made in individual batches 'to taste' using a both antique and modern machines, I'm not sure if you can tell this, but they were very nice.

COLDPRESS Golden Delicious Apple Juice

Made using a cold pressure process to retain the vitamins and nutrients, this juice has an intense feel and flavour on the tongue. I rarely drink fruit juices and found this all a bit too much and sweet for my taste. However, it did feel clean and looked pure. Am sure if juices are your thing, you'll love it!

Planters NUT-RITION Protein & Energy Mix

We always buy Planters Lightly Salted & Dry Roasted Peanuts which we adore. I found both these packs dull by comparison to be honest. The Energy Mix promised chunks of chocolate covered honeycomb, however there were only 3 pieces in the pack. We did enjoy the brazil and walnuts, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy these. The protein mix was just 2 different peanuts and almonds and I think maybe a couple of cashews which were all unsalted, we found these very boring and would not buy again. We found it a 'must' to share these small packs due to the really high calorie content.

LIFT Matcha Instant Green Tea

This is a really posh cylindrical box containing sachets of powdered green tea. Quick to make and very green looking! I didn't like the taste and actually never drink green tea, however if you do I would give it a go, as it's quick to make and apparently you can add it to a health shake too.

Star Wars Popchips Galactic Puffs - Sour Cream & Onion Flavour

These are made from potato and have no artificial ingredients. They are very strongly flavoured and are a quite a satisfying snack.  The shapes include BB-8, the Maillenium Falcon, Stormtroopers and TIE Fighters, which would probably be fun for kids to find and sort. They come out at 100 calories per 23gm serving which is pretty good and on a par with regular crisps.

Ryvita Lightly Salted Rye Cakes

These thin rye cakes are an alternative to rice cakes. They are wholegrain and high in fibre and are just 23 calories per cake. They would be an ideal base for toppings such as cottage cheese and salads for a healthy snack and for anyone on a post Christmas diet! I feel they do need a topping to give them an extra dimension taste-wise.

Sleep Well Vanilla Milk Drink

I gave this to my Mum to have a try, I'll let you know how she got on soon!

'Taking the Pea' Smoked Ham Coated Crunchy Peas.

Given to a friend as I am vegetarian.

Mary Berry's Lemon & Mustard Seed Vinaigrette

This was a nicely presented salad dressing in a recyclable glass bottle. The dressing was a good consistency and looked 'posh'.  I don't actually like mustard so the taste wasn't for me, though I am sure that anyone who likes that kind of flavour would be hooked - you can't really go wrong with Mary Berry can you, and if you decanted into a vintage jug you might even convince people you made it yourself!

Candy Kittens Gourmet Sweets, family size pack of Sour Watermelon flavour

These were large cat shaped chewy sweets. They exploded with flavour in your mouth and were quite unlike anything I've ever had before.  Very perfumey and strong, so that you only needed one at a sitting.  I found them overpowering, but my husband really liked them and has happily chewed his way through the pack.

Robinsons Fruit Creations Peach and Raspberry Squash

This is a squash which has no added sugar and is made with real fruit, so would be top of my shopping list. It is a nice flowery, summery flavour - tasting more of peach than raspberry. Am sure the grandchildren will really enjoy this when they next visit.
