Woods ware Beryl Cheese Dish at yay retro!

Yesterday we had a flurry of interest when yay retro! got a very rare green Beryl cheese dish in stock. Made by Woods, this war time utility tableware is the epitome of war time Britain and the 1940s. Many people will recall their grandparents having a set of green china just like this. Whilst the cups and saucers are common place, items such as the cheese or butter dishes are exceptionally hard to find.

Naturally, the Beryl cheese dish seen on the right above, was sold in minutes. Happily for lovers of the Woods ware cheese dish shape, we do have a later pattern from Woods in stock here. In the 1950s when the rules on manufacturing were lifted, companies could once again branch out and use decoration on their wares. Woods chose a pattern called Piazza which features black and white polka dots for their classic cheese dish shape - so popular in the 1950s. We think this dish is absolutely fabulous and would be a tremendous gift for any Woods ware collector.
